| What is it with younger siblings and chaos? Do they really have to go hand in hand? I invited her out last week to go to a local castle, and I was really looking forward to getting some good quality time with my sister, but she only ups and cancels last minute! It was allegedly to do coursework, or so she told me, which is fair enough, I can handle that, but she's not even touched the folder! Whats worse, is instead of doing something else productive, like, say doing the huge pile of washing up, or putting the clothes out to dry, she's spent her entire day doing sweet nothing! I go out, on my own, because she's supposedly working, do a 5 and 1/2 mile hike around a woodland (because I didn't feel up to going to the castle on my own, its a long drive away), get home, and have to do the housework on top of everything elsebefore my parents get home and start accusing us of being lazy again! Grrrrrrr! *hits her with big hammer* | | |
| Yesterday, I finally became an official reenactor. Got my membership card to prove it too *g* I turned up an hour late though, as even though I woke up surpremely early (after a late night out too no less!), it took forever to finish sewing the hem on my kirtle! But I got there in the end, managed to find a parking space, lugged all my kit through the centre of town, and got set up. Somehow, I spent most of the day (cold as it was) in the kitchens preparing lunch. That was probably a blessing in disguise, as a) I was by the fire, and b) because I was by the fire, and Tracey was at the front table preparing food, it meant the public didn't have a chance to ask me any questions :D I definately need to swat up some more before I get to that stage...All in all a good day, though I will need to find something to do or make for the next one as there were times when I got a little bored...I've been toying with the idea of demonstrating medieval brewery. I reckon that as long as I don't sell anything, or actively brew on site, then it could be interesting. Other than that, I'm kinda at a loss. Meh, hopefully something will come to me before the end of the month.
O yes! Pictures! Here is the wonderful me in full kitchen kit (aka an apron) and me being a woman of ill repute because the stiching on my head scarf came undone.

 The lacing on the front will be changed eventually, this was a quick fix so I could get the dress finished on time.

| Well the smock is made up, and the kirtle is looking more and more like a kirtle, aside from being rather oversized...but heck, its in a cool coloured wool, and it will look great when I finish! I was considering taking a picture of me in my smock, but apparently the rules here state that you shouldn't post obscene pictures or anything, and it is, after all, my underwear. Hehe.
First event is on saturday (actually starts tommorrow but I have psychology. Meh. I know where I'd rather be...) and I'll update to let ya'll know how it went. With pictures. :D
In other news...well to be honest there isn't really much news. Shows how exciting my life is don't it? That making a dress is all I have to report? Ah well, I'm having fun anyways. Apart from the headache I'm currently suffering with. That part ain't so fun. | | |
| Well what was going to be my new found passionate love for sewing and making clothes etc has died a bitter and painful death... >: (
Thought I'd be really good today and got cracking. I decided to go ahead after all with the crap fabric first, since my sewing skills are minimal to say the least, and in the beginning it was going well.... I got all the pieces cut out, and then I started stiching them together on the sewing machine...thats when things started to go wrong...and they kept going wrong...and now I've thrown the damned dress across the dining room and it can stay in its crumpled little heap till I can be bothered to deal with it again....which will probably be tommorrow afternoon...coz I'm going out tonight and need to get ready...blergh | | |
| Its currently quarter past two in the morning, and im sat up feeling really awake and kinda bored...the tv is blaring downstairs as my sister has her friends around which probably isn't helping me get too sleep...anywho...
Just to keep you updated on the costume making, ive managed to find a decent pattern for a early T smock (bit more authentic than the drawstring one most of the girls where, which didn't come in till the early tudor period :D )(Wow, im learning stuff already!!) and ive cut out a pattern on good old wallpaper liner (another tip i picked up from the internet, hehe). I'm hoping to find some really supremly cheap fabric I can make one with just to get the hang of it, but the way things are going i might just blag it and start straight in with my (expensive) linen. After all, its worn under another dress...
And on a sidenote, only two more weeks left till i get my easter holidays!!!!!!! *dances around excitedly before collapsing on bed, and passing out*
